Apples will arrive this afternoon at long last. Apple pie, anyone?
Cold temperatures this past Sunday totally wiped out all the peach crops in the Fredericksburg area. The freeze hit right as those delicate buds were forming which do not reform in time for this pending season. Peaches in other areas escaped a similar fate, but farmers in the Hill Country are understandably bummed.
Johnson’s Backyard Garden is producing delicious carrots without tops and I can’t get enough.
Started off a bit tart but now we’re getting juicy sweet oranges, lemons, & grapefruit. Even some blood oranges. Ah winter.
Going fast! But luckily this is just the beginning of this season. So fragrant, so tender, so local.
You never know how much you love triple-washed spinach til it comes back.
Personally I’ve had my fill of summer squash but don’t worry, we have plenty of butternut!
Fuji, pink lady, granny smith… All the orchards are booming!
